Island Cruises
Description Island Cruises provide Transatlantic cruises which stop off at some of the most exotic and breathtaking sights of Brazil. The Transatlantic Voyage cruise stops at Rio de Janeiro, allowing passenger’s time to visit the many sights of this wonderful city and immerse themselves in its Latin culture.
Rio de Janeiro, the former capital of Brazil, sits amongst spectacular natural settings and is the country’s second largest city. With its year long tropical hot weather and long hotel lined beaches this is definitely one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Whether you are interested in the great night life or would instead rather explore this magnificent city there is something for people of all ages.
The most well known destination for tourists is the statue of Jesus on the Corcovado Mountain. Known to the locals as Cristo Redentor (or Christ the Redeemer), the statue looks down over the city of Rio de Janeiro and symbolises the strong faith and love of the Brazilian people. Also, recently several elevators were installed making it easier for the elderly and disabled to enjoy the views offered by the top of the mountain.
Perhaps though after walking up the mountain you’d rather lie down and relax - and what better place to do so than the famous Copacabana beach. With 4km of sandy beach and clear blue water this is the ideal place to come and soak up some of the warm weather.
Cultural life in Rio de Janeiro is lively, catering for all tastes and cultures. One of the biggest draws is the yearly Brazilian Carnival which is held forty days before Easter. During this there are several famous parades but the most famous is the Cordão do Bola Preta which last year attracted over 200,000 people.
However, the carnival is also about enjoying great food - and with so many bars and restaurants you will be spoilt for choice. A popular dish in the city is feijoada which is a dish consisting of simmered beans and meat, however you are also strongly advised to try salgadinhos. These savoury snacks are often found in corner shops around the country and are very popular with tourists.
Certainly, after visiting Rio de Janeiro you will want to return to this wonderfully beautiful and lively city. Perhaps however, you would rather explore more of the country – with Island Cruises you can, offering stops at other Brazilian cities such as Salvador and Santos. If you would like more information on a Transatlantic cruise then please visit Island Cruises.
